A unique and historically important new series „The History of Auschwitz in 33 Objects” backed and commissioned by Polsat, one of the largest commercial broadcasters in Poland and co-produced by Inbornmedia and the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum has just signed a distribution deal with Off the Fence. Off the Fence will present this important project to broadcasters around the world.
The program shows not well-known side of the Auschwitz Memorial which turns out to be one of the most modern preservation workshops in the world. There is no other place where you save such items as a toothbrush, an old suitcase, or a lock of hair. In the series, we tell the story of the German Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp through the priceless belongings found in a place where over 1,1 million people were murdered – vast majority Jews, but also Poles, Roma and Sinti, Soviet prisoners of war and others.
„The preserved objects stand as a testimony to the history of Auschwitz. They are often connected with the past of particular people and the only trace of their existence. That is why the work on this production was another step for us in preserving the memory of the victims. We also wanted various people, who for many decades have been making an everyday effort to take care for the Memorial Site – including historians, conservators and educators – to talk about it” – emphasizes Rafał Pióro, deputy director of the Museum.
We’re happy to be working with Inbornemedia on another exciting series. Their unique access to the Auschwitz museum and memorial brings us into some of the darkest moments in our history. inbornemedia use stylized animations, alongside breathtaking visuals to bring this series to life” Loren Baxter, Head of Acquisitions – Off the Fence.
What mystery lies behind the Arbeit Macht Frei gate inscription? What is written in the mysterious notes made by Sonderkommando – priosoners forced to work in gas chambers and crematoria – that can be read-only with a specially designed camera? What does the only preserved floor of a gas chamber look like? Who was the owner of the criminal pseudo- medical tools in block 10? These are just some of the questions the series will tackle.
„Due to the international importance of the topic, we immediately decided to make the series in two languages, Polish and English. The Museum staff dedicated themselves to the project and gave interviews also in English so that these stories could spread more easily around the world” – says Maciej Pawełczyk, CEO of Inbornmedia.
The originator and screenwriter of „The History of Auschwitz in 33 Objects” is Marek Zając, channel executive in Polsat and chairman of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation Council.
